Unfortunately, romance fraud increases around this time of year, with criminals using dating apps, social media, and online platforms to build trust before exploiting people financially. Please take a moment to read our simple safety tips to help protect yourself and others.

❤️ Stay Safe & Spot the Signs of Romance Fraud

Be cautious if someone you’ve met online:

Avoids video calls or meeting in person, giving repeated excuses.

Quickly declares strong feelings or tries to move the relationship forward unusually fast.

Asks you to keep the relationship secret or pressures you for privacy.

Requests money—for emergencies, travel costs, investments, medical bills, or business opportunities.

Claims to be working overseas, in the military, or in another “can’t talk freely” profession.

❤️ How to Protect Yourself

Never send money or share bank details with someone you’ve only met online.

Do not share personal documents such as passports, driving licences, or utility bills.

Reverse‑image search photos to check if they appear elsewhere online.

Talk to friends or family if unsure—fraudsters often isolate victims.

Report suspicious behaviour immediately.
